Actor Kathryn Hahn (Agatha All Along, TransParent) and physician and activist Robert Garofalo were among the honorees Nov. 9 as HRC celebrated with Chicago’s LGBTQ+ community and their allies. The event, titled “The Hill We Climb,” was held at the Fairmont Millennium Park, 200 N. Columbus Dr.

Hahn received HRC’s Ally for Equality Award while Garofalo, who is professor of pediatrics at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and chief of the division of adolescent & young adult medicine at Lurie Children’s Hospital, received the organization’s Community Impact Award.
Other honorees included the GenderCool Project, a large-scale initiative centering transgender and non-binary youth as well as offering “support for developing inclusive school policies, positive parent-to-parent communication, and positive connections for employee’s children with other young people to build community,” according to HRC, which awarded it the Community Leadership Award. Tristan Geiser, who is the product, workflow, development senior consultant at CNA Insurance and Chair of Link-USA’s Chicago Steering Committee, received HRC’s Community Leadership Award.
