A key highlight of the evening is the presentation of the ALMA del Líder (Soul of a Leader) Award, created in 2023 to recognize individuals who embody the spirit of servant leadership in advocating for the LGBTQ+ community. This year’s honoree is Frankie Miranda, CEO & President of the Hispanic Federation. Frankie, the first openly gay president of the national organization, has dedicated his career to championing critical causes for Latinx and LGBTQ+ communities. His leadership in launching the ACT Initiative—a multimillion-dollar investment supporting Latinx LGBTQ+ organizations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico—demonstrates his commitment to capacity building and systemic change. ALMA proudly stands as the first Midwest organization to receive funding through this initiative, underscoring Hispanic Federation’s commitment to supporting local organizations advocating for marginalized communities.

“Frankie Miranda’s work at Hispanic Federation has brought unprecedented support to Latinx LGBTQ+ organizations like ALMA, expanding resources and increasing visibility for our communities,” said Manuel Hernández-Nuñez, Executive Director of ALMA. “We are honored to recognize him as this year’s ALMA del Líder Award recipient, celebrating his unwavering commitment to justice and equality.”In a time of rising hostility towards Latinx, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ communities, the work of ALMA has never been more critical. As attacks on these groups intensify, ALMA stands as a beacon of resilience and advocacy, fighting to protect and uplift marginalized voices. Through targeted policy advocacy, community support, and leadership development, ALMA is building a future where all individuals, regardless of identity, can live with dignity and equality. Amid these challenges, ALMA remains hopeful, united with partners and allies to foster a society that celebrates diversity and stands unwaveringly against discrimination.
