Sylvia Fowles and Cappie Pondexter—who both played with the WNBA’s Chicago Sky at one point in their careers—are part of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2025, according to ESPN.
Out legend Sue Bird (who’s engaged to soccer icon Megan Rapinoe) and Alana Beard will also headline next year’s class. Other inductees will include coaches Lucille Kyvallos, who was head coach for West Chester State College and Queens College, and Mark Campbell of Union University. Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Executive Director Danielle Donehew will also be inducted.
According to an NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project entry, Kyvallos, 92, is also part of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2017, the basketball court at Queens College’s Fitzgerald Gymnasium was renamed Lucille Kyvallos Court, making her the first woman in New York City to receive such an honor.
Fowles played with the Sky during 2008-14; the year after leaving for the Minnesota Lynx, she led that team to the WNBA title. In 2020, she became the league’s career leader in rebounds. Pondexter played for Chicago’s Marshall High School and was part of the Sky during 2015-17. During her time at Rutgers University, she scored more than 2,000 points.
