The Chicago Stars FC stood tall against the reigning National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) champions, downing the Orlando Pride 5-2 on Sept. 7 in the club’s Wintrust Lakefront Faceoff at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.

The venue will be where the Stars play their home games next season.

Chicago and Orlando scored all their goals in a breathless second half. Sam Staab, Jameese Joseph, Bea Franklin, Julia Grosso and Ludmila all scored for the Stars. Since the NWSL season resumed, Chicago is now unbeaten in six consecutive matches, including a league-record five straight ties.

The five goals marked only the third time in league history when a team scored that many in the second half.

With a second win under their belt, the Stars return to SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview next week, hosting the Portland Thorns FC on Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. CT.
