Being frank: It makes sense that July 15 is National Hot Dog Day, given how all-American the snack is (and that it’s during the same month as Independence Day). Various restaurants are celebrating with their own specials, with some being available all year round:

  • Chicago Cubs home games are getting an upgrade thanks to 12-time James Beard Award-winning One Off Hospitality Group’s Big Star Wrigleyville. The Tex-Mex spot is giving the classic Chicago dog a game-day makeover with the Chicago Dog Crunch Star. Available for $12, the handheld brings together all the flavors of the hometown favorite—hot dog, sport peppers, relish and mustard—alongside queso Chihuahua, tostadas, pico de gallo, burger sauce and shredded lettuce.
  • Chef Dominique Leach, of Lexington Betty Smokehouse, takes the classic to a new level with her Wagyu steak dogs that are made with F1 Wagyu and Kobe beef. (They’re also available at select Mariano’s locations.) Guests can enjoy the dogs at Lexington Betty Smokehouse in Chicago’s Pullman neighborhood, served either Chicago-stylewith mustard, relish, tomato, sport peppers and celery salt; or Mexican-style, with pico de gallo, avocado salsa and jalapeños.
  • South Barrington spot The Greggory is offering Wagyu pigs in a blanket, featuring mini-wagyu beef hot dogs wrapped in buttery puff pastry and served with German mustard.
  • At Schneider Deli, the Deli Hot Dog comes topped with sauerkraut, corned beef and deli mustard on a poppy-seed bun. It pairs well with the new happy-hour pours at the Lincoln Park location, including $5 Lil Buddy Lager from Hopewell Brewing Co., available 3-6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
