The Midwest Pet & Handler Contest returned to Chicago the weekend of September 4-6, kicking off with a meet-and-greet at Jackhammer, 6406 N. Clark Street, where the two contestants, Pup Shimmer and Pup Defiant, were introduced and asked various questions about themselves, pet play and the community at large.
This year, the Chicago Rose, 6525 N. Clark Street, hosted a pet mosh and various classes on pet play, including, finding your pet identity, knowing your pet’s limits, and inclusivity in pet play. The various classes were hosted by Pocket Wolfspitz, Pup Baxter, Pup Scout and Pup Dodger.
The contest took place at Charlie’s Chicago, 3726 N. Broadway, the following evening and was again emcee’d by Diamond Devereaux-Yaki. Last year’s winner, Puppycat Momo, gave their step-down speech and passed their title sash down to this year’s winner, Pup Defiant.
There were no entries for Handler this year, so, last year’s winner, Daddy Mase, will graciously continue his title reign for another year. A victory party followed the contest at The Chicago Eagle, 4713 N. Broadway Avenue.
