Centre East presents the Chicago premiere of Fried Chicken and Latkes, written by and starring actress Rain Pryor, Friday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 28 at 5 and 8 p.m. The show is a one-woman experience based on the life of Pryor. Using song and characters, she gives audiences a glimpse into her childhood and later years, morphing effortlessly into the people her raised. The daughter of the late African American comedian Richard Pryor and a white, Jewish go-go dancer, Pryor grew up as a Black Jewish girl in Beverly Hills. Fried Chicken and Latkes blends Pryor’s skills as an actress, storyteller, singer, mime, mimic, comedienne and dancer to take audiences on her humorous and deeply moving journey through love, family, career, spiritual growth and a life-long struggle with racial identity.
