On Tuesday, September 20, American Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER) and the Center on Halsted (COH) will co-sponsor an event to celebrate the end of the discriminatory 17 year “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” military policy.
The ceremony, which will be held at the Center on Halsted, will be held on September 20 from 6 to 7 p.m. The AVER Honor Guard will post the Colors, the National Anthem will be sung by travis, and several speakers will give first-hand accounts of serving under this policy, including Sgt Jose Zuniga, removed in 1993 shortly after being named Soldier of the Year.
