When: Monday, Jan. 4 approximately 9 a.m.

Where: Couples should line up at the Clerk’s downtown Vital Records office, located in the lower level of the Daley Center, 50 W. Washington. The Vital Records office opens at 8:30 a.m. The marriage ceremony will take place in Clerk Orr’s office (69 W. Washington, Fifth Floor, Chicago) after the couple applies for a license, agrees to be married immediately and a judge waives the standard 24-hour waiting period.

More: An annual tradition for more than 20 years, the lucky couple who obtains the first marriage license of the year will receive an array of gifts valued at over $800 donated by local businesses including the Palmer House Hilton, Lettuce Entertain You restaurants, iO Improv Comedy, Bryan Docter Fine Art Photography and LaSalle Flowers. Clerk Orr also pays the marriage license fee.
