Famous Door Theatre Company offers comedy, irony, power and feeling in Peter Parnell’s prize-winning, two-part adaptation of The Cider House Rules. Unlike the film, which covers only 15 years, the stage version spans the full 80 years of John Irving’s novel, intertwining the lives of Dr. Larch and his dearest orphan and prize pupil, Homer Wells. Wonderful lead actors Larry Neumann, Jr. and Daniel Kuhlman are supported by an ensemble of 40 playing 100 roles in this ambitious, well-wrought show. Lotsa’ cute guys in their skivvies, too, as Homer’s fellow orphans. Upstairs at Victory Gardens Theater through April 6; (773) 871-3000; $15-$32.
