As part of African-American History Month, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and The HistoryMakers present Showtime! Black Theatre in Chicago, a panel discussion, Thurs., Feb. 20 at 6 p.m., in the Claudia Cassidy Theater of the Chicago Cultural Center, 77 E. Randolph St. Moderated by Chuck Smith of The Goodman Theater, this discussion will trace the history of Black theater in Chicago through the life stories of some of the individuals who helped to create it, and who have been recognized by The HistoryMakers for their accomplishments. Douglas Alan Mann (Chicago Theater Company), Val Gray Ward (Kuumba Theater), Okoro Harold Johnson (ETA Creative Arts Foundation) and Jackie Taylor (Black Ensemble Theater) discuss how these Chicago institutions spearheaded the development of Black theater in Chicago.
