Emilia Pérez—Jacques Audiard’s musical about a Mexican drug lord who undergoes gender-affirming surgery—led nominations to the 82nd Golden Globes on Dec. 9, scoring 10 nods, the AP reported.
Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist—which runs three-and-a-half hours—landed seven nominations, including best picture, drama and acting nods for Adrian Brody and Guy Pearce. Edward Berger’s Conclave, starring Ralph Fiennes as a cardinal tasked with leading the conclave to elect a new pope, scored six nominations, including acting nods for Fiennes and Isabella Rossellini.
Wicked: Part One (which has a second half that will run next year) scored nods for best film musical or comedy, and for cinematic and box-office achievement.
According to Yahoo! Movies, snubs included actresses Saoirse Ronan (The Outrun; Blitz) and Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson); director Jon M. Chu (Wicked: Part One); and the queer AMC series Interview with the Vampire. Surprises included Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story; and the Netflix series Ripley, which stars out actor Andrew Scott.
The nominations for the Globes—which will be televised by CBS and streamed on Paramount+ on Jan. 5—were announced by actors Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut. Comedian Nikki Glaser will host the event, succeeding Jo Koy, whose stint was widely panned.
