CHICAGO—Chicago film company Yellow Wing Productions announced today that its documentary Fish out of Water will be released by First Run Features April 20, 2010. The film, which dissects the common Bible verses used to condemn homosexuality and justify marriage discrimination, has enjoyed a successful run in the festival circuit, taking the Jury Prize for Best Documentary Short at Reeling Film Festival and Runner Up for Audience Award at the Tallgrass Film Festival.
First Run Features is one of the largest independent theatrical and home video distributors in the United States, releasing films with such notable directors as: Spike Lee, Michael Apted, and Jane Campion.
“First Run Features has shepherded critical films for the gay community including Jihad for Love and For the Bible Tells me So,” says Ky Dickens, Director and Executive Producer. “We’re honored to be under the same umbrella as these important movies and we’re thrilled that Fish out if Water will finally be available for families, churches and schools in all corners of our country.”
Dickens’ genre-bending documentary blends original animation, personal LGBTQ narratives, expert analysis, and witty illustrations, offering a fresh perspective on Biblical interpretation. Golden Globe nominated composer Kaki King (Into the Wild, August Rush) delivers an original score that flows effortlessly through the film’s diverse elements.
With a mission to “turn a movie into a movement,” Yellow Wing Productions will take Fish out of Water on a three-week road trip aimed at eradicating Bible-backed misconceptions about homosexuality. “The Great American Outing” tour will make 14 stops throughout the South and Midwest, offering free screenings and panel discussions in July 2010.
