About 85 members of Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band joined members of the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony the evening of June 5 for the Skylines in Sound concert. The performance took place at Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave. Orchestra Hall is home to Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Conducted by Assistant Artistic Director Jackie Fischer, Lakeside Pride played four selections from previous performances: “Dreamer’s Overture,” by Duroje Gwamma; “As a River Flows,” by Christina Huss and R. Alan Carter; “Merry-Go-Round,” by Yukiko Nishimura; and “Dancing in the Wind,” by Yosuke Fukuda.

Each piece was introduced by Archivist/Historian David Patterson, Lakeside Pride’s regular emcee.

Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony (AYWS) is the premier musical ensemble for high school-age wind and percussion instrumentalists in the Atlanta area. Led by Music Director and Conductor Scott A. Stewart and Guest Conductor David Fairchild, AYWS’s musical program paid tribute to New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles. 

Chicago-based RISA Saxophone Quartet performed alongside AYWS for part of the concert.
