Refocusing outreach efforts for metro Chicago’s linguistically and culturally diverse communities, the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month with new bilingual community safety training courses. Taught completely in Spanish, the courses will be offered in October, in synch with Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the cultural contributions of the Hispanic community in the United States.
‘With U.S. Census statistics indicating Hispanics represent almost 30 percent of Chicago’s population, the Chicago-area chapter of the Red Cross hopes to share basic skills for family safety with this important and influential segment of the community,’ said Matt Baetke, managing director of community safety training at the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago. ‘Just as the Hispanic population is expected to continue to grow rapidly, the Red Cross looks to expand bilingual course offerings in the future. We’re committed to making sure all of Chicagoland’s families have access to lifesaving health and safety information.’
