The Chicago Commission on Human Relations Advisory Council on Gay and Lesbian Issues (ACGLI) named the 2002 inductees to the world’s only known municipally sponsored Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was established in 1991 under the auspices of ACGLI, with continuing support from the Chicago Commission on Human Relations and from Mayor Daley.
Those inducted at the Oct. 15 ceremony at the Cultural Center: Evette Cardona, C.C. Carter, Jim Gates, Charles Edward Nelson II, Mona Noriega, Christina Smith, Lauren Sugerman. Organizations: Affinity Community Services, Mattachine Midwest, and NAMES Project Chicago Chapter. Rep. Louis I. Lang was inducted as Friend of the Community.
