The Chicago Cubs celebrated Pride Night on June 13 with activations, music, T-shirts and more.
For the Pride Celebration at Wrigley Field, the Cubs recognized the Legacy Project, a Chicago-based cultural and education nonprofit dedicated to researching and promoting the contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals. They also presented a check to the Legacy Project (for $15,000) to support the creation of a bronze memorial marker in honor of Glenn Burke, the first openly gay MLB player, which will be on display on the Legacy Walk on Halsted Street in Lake Viewnot far from Wrigley.
The team also partnered with the LGBT Chamber of Commerce of Illinois on a Pride Market featuring LGBTQ+-owned and -friendly businesses at Gallagher Way. The Pride Market was open on June 13.
In addition, before the game, TikTok stars Adam Motz and Tee Lam of "2 Dads 2 Twins" threw the ceremonial first pitch; also, two-time James Beard Award winner Chef Art Smith sang the seventh-inning stretch. In addition, the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus performed.
Also, the Cubs will fly Progress Pride flags at the stadium throughout June.
By the way, the Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-3 as Ian Happ hit a three-run, first-inning drive for his first home run since May 5, ESPN noted.
