Joanne Trapani was expected to become the state’s first openly gay or lesbian head of a city or town Tuesday, April 3. She ran unopposed for Village Trustee for west suburban Oak Park.
She was slated by the Village Manager Association (VMA), Oak Park’s oldest and most established political party, last December.
Oak Park, a village of about 53,000 residents, has earned a reputation as one of the state’s most welcoming places for gays and lesbians.
