Columbia College hosts a memorial service for Hollis Sigler Sat., April 21. This prominent artist, whose series of works on her own breast cancer gave strength to countless women, died the end of March. Starts 2 p.m., Getz Theater, 72 E. 11th. A Chicago Tribune obituary for Sigler quoted her “longtime friend” Patricia Locke-;but the two were more than friends, they were partners, and Locke was not listed as among Sigler’s survivors.

Connie Carrol, originally from the Chicago suburb of Wilmette, died recently. She moved to Tampa, Fla., seven years ago. She had worked in social services as a child care worker, and later Carrol worked for many years in insurance. She is survived by her two brothers, two nephews, father, numerous friends and the “Sweat Pea Poker Club.”
