Pedro Gonzalez, 19, is being held on $350,000 bond for the murder of his former lover, Gerardo Santiago, 31.
In a taped confession, Gonzalez told police that he killed Santiago when Santiago threatened to “out” him to his girlfriend.
According to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, the attack took place Oct. 15 at 3520 N. Avondale. The defendant and the victim were former roommates. Gonzalez said he ended the relationship in September and moved in with his girlfriend. Gonzalez said Santiago continued to call him, and threatened to expose their relationship.
Gonzalez then reportedly drove to where the victim was and shot him in the head and neck. Gonzalez reportedly told a third party about the murder.
Gonzalez’ next court date is Nov. 13 in Branch 66.
