The Los Angeles Times reports that more than 1,000 people attended a march Sept. 6 to protest the Labor Day beatings of three men in two incidents.
A Sept. 4 vigil had been held for for Trev Broudy, 33, a West Hollywood actor who was critically wounded by a bat-wielding attacker in an assault being investigated as a hate crime.
He was struck in the back of the head, kicked and punched as he and a friend walked. Broudy was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was listed in critical but stable condition. He has been unconscious since the attack, the newspaper reported. Edward Lett, 22, was treated for minor injuries.
The incident occurred about 12:20 a.m. Sept. 2 as the two friends said goodbye after having dinner, a police spokeswoman said. “As they embraced, a car pulled up with three men inside. Two men jumped out…one with what was believed to be a baseball bat. Words were exchanged and the men were attacked,” the Times reported.
An hour after that first attack, another gay man, a 35-year-old West Hollywood resident was walking when two men attacked him, possibly with a baseball bat or metal pipe. He was able to escape with large bruises on the back of his head.
Officials say they believe the same assailants were responsible for both attacks, and they view them as hate crimes.
