Adodi Chicago Midwest held its 4th Kwanzaa Celebration at the South Side Community Art Center. The program included Kwanzaa Rituals and a wide range of performance art. Highlights of the program were song selections performed by Sidney Evans, Columbus Murphy, and Antonio King. Patrick Kirkwood led the Black National Anthem ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing.’ Maxson Smith recited and elaborated on the 7 Kwanzaa principles, Sanford Gaylord and Byron Stewart shined in a performance art piece which was a selection from the play We Heard the Night Outside. Donna Rose recited ‘As We Gather.’ a poem to an African drum beat. Keynote Speaker Minister Ed Stivers spoke on Reflections. Adodi Chicago’s President Ken McCane says ‘This year we have grown as a SGL community.’ He acknowledged the presence of family members, ‘It is a milestone for many SGL African American Men to have the opportunity to share in activities with their immediate family members.’ Rev. Thom Ford closed the program reinforcing the spirit of Kwanzaa.
