It’s oh-so-intellectual playwright Tom Stoppard in an oh-so-frivolous mood in this jolly romp set on board a luxury ocean liner sailing the Atlantic in the 1930s. In Rough Crossing, Stoppard mixes romance, wit, music and physical comedy as he pays homage to Noel Coward and French boulevard farce. Director Michael Halberstam and a bang-on cast (including popular diva Hollis Resnik) make it a delightful night out at the Writer’s Theatre at Books on Vernon in Glencoe. The show is a hit, and the theater is tiny, so call well in advance for tickets. (847) 242-6000; $40-$45.
