dueEast Theatre Company’s inaugural production of The Theory of Everything pays homage to Asian-American Heritage month. The play follows seven Asian Americans (Thai, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese) who gather atop a Las Vegas wedding chapel every week for a UFO watch. One particular night brings about profound changes in all their lives when the impossible becomes a reality. This vibrant and moving comedy explores the politics of race, identity, and faith.
Artistic Director Allen Sermonia directs The Theory of Everything with a pan-asian ensemble spanning Chicago’s Asian-American performing arts groups such as Stir-Friday Night, Pintig Cultural Group, and one of Chicago’s original pan-asian theatre companies, Mina Sama-NO. The cast includes: Jennifer Liu, Christine Bunuan, Narciso Lobo, Elaine Wong, Mike Pureza, Mary Ann de La Cruz, and Ben Veatch.
