While the community celebrated GLBT pride, Canada marriage and the U.S. Supreme Court sodomy ruling, we also suffered the loss of long-time Chicago activist Gerardo Montemayor. He’s pictured here speaking at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Creating Change conference last fall. At right is Katharine Hepburn, 96, who passed away last weekend, and who was an icon for the LGBT community—and for strong women everywhere. Longtime Sen. Strom Thurmond also passed away last week—but most people at the Pride Parade seemed to be celebrating the passing of the long-time opponent of gay rights. He died the day the sodomy ruling was handed down.
