Long before there was Charlie Chaplin, there was Italian comedy. Carlo Goldoni’s 250 year old play, The Venetian Twins, has been given an English updating by adapter Michael Feingold, and a very lively production by Trap Door Theatre. The costumes and trimmings may be contemporary in The Venetian Twins, but the humor is classic baggy pants-and-slapstick stuff about identical twins, separated at birth, who show up in the same town at the same time, searching for love. Through Aug. 9, at Angel Island Theatre, 731 W. Sheridan Road; (773) 384-0494; $15.
