Lincoln Park resident Brad Nelson Winters, 38, was found murdered in his apartment Aug. 19.
Winters, who was the artistic director of the Terrapin Theater, was stabbed three times and strangled, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The Chicago Tribune reported Aug. 22 that Winters’ body was discovered after co-workers grew concerned when he failed to report to his job as a marketing assistant for Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Police have no suspects or motive in the case. However, it mirrors dozens of similar ‘stranger danger’ crimes, with no forced entry and a brutal, anonymous ‘overkill’ murder in the victim’s home. Winters’ wallet and cell phone were missing. Earlier this year, a former priest was found murdered in his home, after he met a stranger at a bar and brought him back to his lakefront apartment.
At the fringe Terrapin Theatre, 444 N. Wabash, Winters was both an actor and a director of many successful productions.According to the theater’s Web site, Winters directed Brimstone and Treacle in the 2002 season, The Nina Variations (2001), The Government Inspector (2001), The Sneeze (2000, with several other co-directors), Blue Remembered Hills (1999), and Stags and Hens (1997).
