The membership of the Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization (IVI-IPO) voted to recommend to the organization’s board a joint endorsement of Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes and State Senator Barack Obama in Illinois’ U.S. Senate race.

A motion was made to recommend an endorsement of Obama but was rejected by the membership, failing to receive the necessary 50% of those present. A second motion was then made to recommend both Hynes and Obama for endorsement, which passed overwhelmingly.

The IVI-IPO Executive Board will be meeting in the coming weeks to consider the recommendation and make an endorsement.
