The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King took the best picture in the drama category Sunday at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Golden Globe Awards here, and Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation won for best comedy. Charlize Theron won for best actress in a drama for her stunning turn in Monster—which puts her top of the line for an Oscar as well. She portrays serial killer Aileen Wuornos. The HBO mini-series Angels in America, based on Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning AIDS play, won five of the major TV awards. It got best TV mini-series, and awards for Meryl Streep as best actress, Al Pacino as best actor, Mary-Louise Parker as best supporting actress and Jeffrey Wright as best supporting actor. Diane Keaton won best actress in a comedy for Something’s Gotta Give. Sarah Jessica Parker won best actress for Sex and the City.
