About Face continues its 2003-2004 season with artistic associate Patricia Kane’s world premiere comedy, Pulp. Directed by artistic associate Jessica Thebus, the play—an homage to the lesbian pulp fiction novels of the 1950s and 1960s—begins previews Jan. 29, opens Feb. 7, and continues through March 20 at Victory Gardens Theatre, 2257 N. Lincoln.
Pulp is the story of tough, hard-as-nails Terry Logan who takes up residency at The Well (a reference to the classic lesbian novel by Radclyffe Hall), a Chicago club full of ‘booze, broads, and drag kings.’ The production features a jazzy score and a cast of some of Chicago’s finest actresses. The play promises to throw a spotlight on a world where ‘drag kings rule and forbidden lust lurks behind every innuendo.’ Call (773) 871-3000.
Watch for Rick Reed’s interview with playwright Patricia Kane in next week’s Windy City Times.
