The Neo-Futurists close out their 2003-2004 season with Inside My Mouth, a world-premiere production conceived and curated by ensemble member Genevra Gallo, opening May 13, and running through June 19, at The Neo-Futurarium, 5153 N. Ashland at Foster.

Inside My Mouth is a weave of narratives following the lives and experiences of four women, from different backgrounds, and their personal examinations of identity, honesty, and their own expectations. What is an ambivalent lesbian civil-rights housewife? How can an artist also be a good mother? How does an Indian woman raised in a traditional family reconcile her own needs and decisions? When will Barbie ever get fat?

Using resources and influences from the world around them (Disney films, childhood novels, Hindu folklore, and Shakespearean heroines), as well as their own histories, the writers of Inside My Mouth use the Neo-Futurist aesthetic to explore and engage in an honest and playful look at who they are, how they behave, and what they choose to communicate, while taking ample opportunities to encourage and challenge the audience to consider their own lives and choices.

Inside My Mouth is written and performed by Neo-Futurist ensemble members Genevra Gallo, Noelle Krimm, and Sharon Greene; as well as local Ph.D. student and writer, Siri Sonty. See www.neofuturists.org or call (773) 275-5255.
