Apple Tree Theatre has extended A Man of No Importance through July 24. This most unusual musical—by the Ragtime team of Terrance McNally, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens—is a coming-out story about a Dublin bus conductor, the handsome young bus driver he idolizes, amateur theatricals and Oscar Wilde who makes a cameo appearance. It’s set in 1964 when coming out—in Dublin or anywhere else—was a bit more daring than it is today. Lovely music with an Irish lilt, and excellent performances by Ross Lehman, Zach Ford, Mary Ernster, Patrick Clear. 595 Elm Place, Highland Park; (847) 432-4335; $38
