Cesar Ubalde, 59, an entertainer-turned-volunteer who worked with many local health-related organizations, has died.
Ubalde was been a case manager with the service organization Vital Bridges since 1999 and in AIDS services since 1995, according to a biographical sketch provided by the association. Ubalde also was a part of the Chicago Department of Public Health’s Title I Planning Council; in that capacity, he provided input concerning how federal funds should be used in Chicago.
Before becoming involved in AIDS services, Ubalde performed in and was manager of a variety of nightclubs in the Chicagoland area.
Ubalde was a native of the Philippines and was actually there visiting family when he passed away.
The Vital Bridges profile stated that Ubalde was a ‘gentle, kind individual who cared about his clients, his co-workers, [the group’s] volunteers, and the community.’ It is obvious that his presence will be sorely missed by many.
A memorial service in Ulribe’s honor will be held Thursday, Dec. 16, at 4 p.m. at Broadway United Methodist Church, 3344 N. Broadway. Immediately after the service there will be a gathering in the fellowship hall of the church, where friends are invited to share personal stories and memories of Cesar.
