The City of Chicago, in an effort to encourage the city’s residents to recycle Christmas trees, is running a ‘Turn Green Into Blue’ program. On Sat., Jan. 8, anyone who recycles a tree will receive a year’s worth of recycling blue bags in addition to getting the usual bag of mulch.

People can take their trees to any one of 22 participating parks between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The trees are placed into a chipper and turned into reusable mulch. (Note: Residents are asked to remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, wiring, and other materials from the trees before they are recycled.) Some of the places where people can go include Lincoln Park, Cannon Drive at Fullerton; Marquette Park, 6700 S. Kedzie Ave.; North Park Village, 5801 N. Pulaski Rd.; and Humboldt Park, 1440 N. Sacramento Ave. For more information, visit www.cityofchicago.com or call 311.
