It looks like those Boy Scout license plates will not be made—at least, not right now.

The Illinois Senate Committee was slated to hold a hearing March 15 in Springfield on whether to create Boy Scouts license plates and whether to donate 425 to the Boy Scouts of America for each plate that is made or renewed (Senate Bill 1813). Rob Sherman, an advocate who was set to testify against the plates, told Windy City Times that the hearing has been put off indefinitely. ‘When I showed up [on March 8] for the hearing, [bill sponsor] State Sen. Kirk Dillard, R-24th, declined to call the bill and rescheduled it for [March 15]. Then, when he saw that I was there for this hearing, he declined to call the bill again. However, there’s nothing to stop this from coming up again next year,’ he said.

Sherman—who also believes that the legalization of gay marriage could help the state balance its budget—plans on running for state representative (53rd District) in March 2006, partially to be even more active in attempting to halt measures such as the license plate bill.
