Jose Lugaro, 28, has only been in Chicago a short while but has already made his mark, stepping into the role of deputy director of development for the Center on Halsted. He has been extensively involved with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, where, as a major gifts officer, he helped to double revenue and expand the organization’s donor base to markets in Boston, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Chicago.

An active volunteer, Jose was part of AIDS Walk New York, where he recruited volunteers, solicited walkers, raised money and assisted with event production; other groups he has volunteered with include Human Rights Campaign and the Victory Fund. He also lists getting to know his family better as one of his recent accomplishments.

DID YOU KNOW? Although he loves Chicago, Jose lived quite the peripatetic life after graduating college; within three months after the event, he managed to move from Pennsylvania to San Diego to New York to Washington, D.C.
