Not many people get excited about 100-below temperatures.

Lesbian Antarctica lover and author Gretchen Legle stopped by Women & Children First Bookstore for a cozy reading and discussion of her chilling yet heart-warming collection of essays, On the Ice.

Legler joked that it was nice to walk around Chicago, where clunky boots and fur-lined hoods were unnecessary. In On the Ice, the University of Maine associate professor reveals her experiences during an excursion to Antarctica, where she found herself and her true love. ‘I met my one in Antarctica,’ she said, adding that the two are very happy together.

‘I feel like I wanted to go there all my life,’ Legler told the audience after describing the bitter-cold land’s magnificent beauty.
