It’s a showbiz musical about a child star with too much family, but it’s not Gypsy with Mama Rose pushing her reluctant daughter center stage. The ruthless one in Ruthless is the kid herself—a clawing and conniving eight year old who would step on her own grandmother to be a star, let alone any other girl with ideas about sharing the limelight. You won’t know the songs from Ruthless, but you’ll recognize the situation of this Off-Broadway camp classic, as there is very little difference between a child star and a vicious drag queen. Ruthless features popular Jeff Award winner Renee Matthews. Noble Fool Theater at Pheasant Run Resort, St. Charles; through Aug. 19; 630-584-6342; $27-$37.
