Do you have your tickets for your favorite Gay Games events yet? If not, folks, this is one instance where you DO NOT want to be fashionably late. Visit gaygameschicago.org and get them now. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Since we’re now in the thick of Summer, Chicago is heating up with SummerDance, now in its tenth year. But there is a slight twist this time around if you are interested in hearing a DJ spin. Entitled the ‘Nomadic DJ Series,’ the city has decided to move the DJ sets around the downtown area. Check out ChicagoSummerDance.org for more details.
The Windy City Gay Idol has come to a finish, and taking the lead was Christy Fairbairn, the powerhouse who blew the socks off everyone in the audience at the finals. Her first of three songs that night was Etta James’ ‘At Last’ and let me tell you, I knew she was taking home the prize the moment she began. She followed with ‘All That Jazz’ from Chicago while wearing a slinky black gown, and ended with the Dixie Chicks’ ‘Sin Wagon.’
Don’t be surprised if you start to hear her name more often. Christy has the stage presence, the pipes, and most of all, the most endearing personality of any of the Idol contestants I’ve ever met. Don’t miss her performance at the Gay Games.
The Windy City Queercast is up and running folks, and I cannot stress how much fun our show is. My virtual lesbian wife Amy Matheny and I have so many good things in store for all of you, I’d get in big trouble if I mentioned them here. But let’s just say that if you subscribe to our FREE show, you won’t be disappointed. Fire up your web browsers, and point them to WindyCityQueercast.com.
It seems like my column this week is an advertisement for various websites. Well, along that theme, have you ever been to The HuffingtonPost.com? It’s my new obsession. Ariana Huffington (formerly Ariana Stassinopoulos, power to my Greek sistahs!) has formed a collaborative news blog that reports on everything from U.S. politics to entertainment. It’s the kind of news source that all media should strive to become. The people who post are from widely different backgrounds, some well known and others not. Primarily left in their reporting, this blog has been known to break many news stories due to the ‘plugged-in’ nature of many of the reporters. Forget CNN in the morning; visit HuffingtonPost.com instead.
And now, a more random sampling of links I love: ANTM’s pre-med turned model (elysesewell.livejournal.com), the podcast I can’t live without (yeastradio.com), the best flash cartoon series (weebls-stuff.com), the geek in me loves slashdot.org, it’s addicting (postsecret.blogspot.com), HAM I am (arrl.org), when I have a question (wikipedia.org) and finally, the place I go to reflect on it all (radiopeter.com).
With you in 4/4,
