Ten Square, by critically acclaimed Chicago playwright Shepsu Aakhu, has been selected as the winner of Columbia College Chicago’s 23rd Annual Theodore Ward African-American Playwriting Contest.
Regarding the play, Aakhu said in a statement from the college that it is “an opportunity to explore black politics.” He added that the motivation for the play began four years ago, in “a pre-Obama, pre-Blagojevich world.”
Ten Square will run March 11-22 at New Studio Theater, 72 E. 11th (basement level). Tickets are $5 (previews) -$14; call 312-369-6126 or visit www.colum.edu/theater.
