The Brother/Sister Plays, Steppenwolf Theatre, through May 23. Three intertwined plays by a promising new playwright performed under one roof in two segments and not a moment in any of them where we don’t wish right away that we could see it all a second time—or even a third. MSB

Holly Hughes’ The Dog & Pony Show (Bring Your Own Pony), Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, through March 21. Find out what happens when a “professional homosexual” and performance artist like Hughes (who gained fame as one of the NEA 4 in 1990) enters the dog agility training world in this comical monologue. SCM

The Ring Cycle, Building Stage, through March 21. Richard Wagner minus the music is sword-and-sandle fun that’s a helluva lot shorter than the operas. His text alone is neither subtle nor profound, but there’s much to be said for circus, puppets and Teutonic lust! JA

Tim Miller’s Lay of the Land, Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, through March 21. Miller hasn’t lost his edge since gaining fame in 1990 as one of the NEA 4. That the Statue of Liberty is transgender is but one of revelatory observations he makes in a monologue that’s at once provocative, hilarious and relevant. CS
