The Drowsy Chaperone, Marriott Theater, through June 27. The brainlessness of 1920s musicals gets an affectionate ribbing in this hilarious 2006 Broadway musical, spiffily performed in the round under director/choreographer Marc Robin’s tap-happy tutelage. SCM
Killer Joe, Profiles Theatre at Royal George Theatre, extended through July 18. The Royal George cabaret room is bigger than Profiles’ Uptown storefront, but the humor in this Jeff-recommended revival of Pulitzer-winner Tracy Letts’ inaugural play is still as cruel as the violence is savage. MSB.
Spin, Theater Wit, through June 6. On the surface, the play inaugurating Lakeview’s spanking-new playhouse looks like an old-fashioned rom-com. But beneath the screwball antics lie smart lessons in finding goals and following bliss. MSB
The Yeoman of the Guard, Light Opera Works, June 4-13. This rarely seen late Gilbert & Sullivan operetta is reason to rejoice, with Sullivan’s most majestic music and Gilbert’s most serious story, a tale of unrequited love at the Tower of London in the 1500’s. JA
