The Cook County state’s attorney’s first-ever Pride Awards Ceremony took place June 30 at Center on Halsted. Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez and members of the office’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Advisory Council honored Art Johnston and Glen Pietrandoni, R. Ph., AAHIVE (HIV Expert). Johnston helped establish the LGBT-rights group Equality Illinois (formerly known as the Illinois Federation for Human Rights) and co-owns the popular Boystown nightspot Sidetrack. Pietrandoni, a program director at Walgreen Company, is a veteran pharmacist and HIV-medicine expert. In addition, LGBT-rights activist Vernita Gray of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office received the first Lifetime Achievement Award.
