A Christmas Carol, Goodman Theatre, through Dec. 31. To play Scrooge well, an actor must have a nasty streak. Goodman’s new Scrooge, tall and edgy John Judd, is minted in gold for the role in The Mother of All Chicago Holiday Shows, lavish as ever. JA
Liberace, Milwaukee Repertory at the Stackner Cabaret in Milwaukee, through Jan. 16. In a closeted age, pianoman Wladziu Valentino Liberace—that’s Liber-AH-chee, kids—flaunted it and made them love it, his flamboyant escapades re-created in this solo musical salute to Milwaukee’s favorite home boy. MSB
The Other Cinderella, Black Ensemble Theater, extended through January 23. A Caribbean-accented Fairy God-Mama makes the wishes come true in this anniversary production of the musical that launched the company moving into its own brand-new playhouse next year. MSB
Sweet Bird of Youth, The Artistic Home, extended through Jan. 16. Dale Calandra’s juicy production of Tennessee Williams’ very entertaining 1959 drama is full of plusses. Kathy Scambiatterra’s fading Hollywood starlet is a hoot, while Josh Odor’s self-possessed arrogance (and gorgeous golden torso) makes for an especially lovely gigolo. SCM
