TBS closed its Just For Laughs festival with a star-studded performance from two Martins—Steve Martin and Martin Short—at the Chicago Theatre June 19, as the two interviewed each other and competed for attention.
The show was dubbed “A Very Stupid Conversation,” although it was anything but—it was more like a tribute to each other’s body of work. With both comedians being in the business for decades there was much to discuss. From Martin’s early start as a magician to Short’s applause recordings for appearances in his bedroom as a kid, these two have come a long way. Just watching the video on huge screens on either side of the stage in between sets was entertaining enough, with Short in drag as Elizabeth Taylor and Steve mugging for a past performance of The Great Flydini. Steve played the banjo with a ditty and Short changed into Jiminy Glick to really have fun with his buddy onstage.
The two took questions from the audience before closing out the show.
