(Houston, June 22, 2011) – Lambda Legal will host its 8th annual breakfast celebrating the historic U.S. Supreme Court victory that struck down sodomy laws nationwide, Lawrence v. Texas. This year’s keynote speaker will be State Representative Jessica Farrar.
In the 2003 Lawrence v. Texas decision, the United States Supreme Court declared Texas’s “Homosexual Conduct” law, which made it a crime for two people of the same sex to have oral or anal sex, unconstitutional.
Who: State Representative Jessica Farrar
In January 2011, State Representative Jessica Farrar authored HB 604— Repeal of the Offense of Homosexual Conduct. This bill would repeal the law declared unconstitutional in the Lawrence v. Texas decision and would also amend the Health and Safety Code to delete the statement that homosexual conduct is not an acceptable lifestyle and is a criminal offense.
