The weather may be chilly, but The Hypocrites are re-heating Gilbert and Sullivan’s 1879 comic operetta The Pirates of Penzance as a zany environmental basement beach party. If you missed director Sean Graney’s critically acclaimed production last year, then don’t miss this revival that features just 10 actors who also double as the operetta’s ragtag orchestra for a loopy romp from start to finish. The Pirates of Penzance continues through Jan. 22 at the Chopin Theatre, 1541 W. Division St. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays. Extra 7:30 p.m. shows are Dec. 12 and 20 and Wednesdays, starting Jan. 4. Extra 3 p.m. Saturday shows take place Dec. 3, 10 and 17, and Jan. 7, 14 and 21 (no shows Dec. 24-25, 31 or Jan. 1). Tickets are $28. Call 773-989-7352 or visit www.the-hypocrites.com for more information. Photo courtesy of the company
