Organizers behind Windy City Black Pride (WCBP) were forced to cancel Chicago Park Festival in Sherman Park July 1 due to safety concerns, according to the organization’s website.
The organization said that 9th District Commander David Jarmusz would not allow the festival to take place due to “area gang warfare” and a concern for patron safety. WCBP also noted a very recent shooting in Sherman Park.
“According to the Chicago Police Department, it is in WCBP’s and our patron’s best interest to reschedule the event for another weekend,” the organization said.
Event organizers were not immediately available to comment. Windy City Times will update as details become available.
