ELECTIONS 2018, Windy City Times March 20 Primary Survey of Candidates

Each election cycle, Windy City Times mails out surveys to all major candidates for races in Illinois, including downstate state rep and senate candidates. This year was a record year, with more than 800 mailed last December. Just 95 candidates then completed the online link to the survey. It’s clear that the more supportive the candidate, the more likely they are to respond to a survey from an LGBTQ newspaper.

This was our first year with an online survey. This week’s Windy City Times has results from the 38 questions for general candidates; we will publish judicial responses soon, as we are waiting for judicial evaluations from bar associations to be published.

Since we did this survey online, we also have some data to share. Below are some highlights of the responses from the 95 candidates in non-judicial races.

Five of the questions were narrative on more complex issues such as prevention of violence targeting transgender people and criminal justice reform including LGBTQs. The remaining questions were yes or no. Those yes or no questions are represented here.
