Orange Is the New Black alum/LGBT actress Ruby Rose has been cast to play lesbian superhero Batwoman (a.k.a. Kate Kane), Entertainment Weekly reported.
The character will be introduced in the network’s annual DC crossover event this winter that involves the shows Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl, and the network is also developing a standalone series around the character. If the series happens, it will be the first featuring an LGBT superhero.
However, LGBTQ Nation has reported that Rose has quit Twitter after some backlash—including one person who was disappointed that a Jewish woman isn’t playing the hero, and another who wrote that Rose “is not the only queer actress out there.” A lot of other users seemed satisfied with the choice.
